WRS is proud to be one of
four contractors to produce Talking Books For The Blind for the
National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped
(NLS) of the Library of Congress.
These books and
magazines are made readily available through a provision in the U.S.
copyright law and with additional permission granted by authors and
publishers whose works are not specifically covered by this
provision. Each year NLS selects hundreds of books and dozens of
magazines and makes them available in a special cassette format that
can only be played on special machines provided by the agency to
qualified participants.
Anyone who is unable
to access traditional printed material due to either a visual or
physical impairment can qualify to receive materials through this
service. Throughout the year, Talking Book Topics, an NLS
publication, notifies subscribers of the latest audio releases.
WRS New England
has four recording studios located in its Burlington, MA plant.
A wide variety of books are recorded in our studios, from best
sellers to classic literature and poetry.
Our voice talent are a
select group of skilled professionals, with wide experience on stage,
on the radio, and on television. Many have extensive knowledge of
foreign languages, and specialize in dialects or particular accents
from around the world. Most have honed their skills through years of
reading for WRS, and have recorded hundreds of titles.
WRS' continued
participation in the NLS program is both a privilege and a profound
responsibility. As a producer and contractor, we are honored to
participate in this program and we are grateful to have had the
opportunity to add to the intellectual and aesthetic wealth of this
national treasure.
